Celebrating the Flying Colors of Our Nation’s Air Force

Ayala Corporation’s Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Fernando Zobel de Ayala welcomed the crème de la crème of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to the gathering of McMicking Wings awardees at the Ayala Museum on Wednesday.

“Today’s fellowship is our small way of honoring the incredible members of our Air Force. Our airmen, along with the many brave men and women of our uniformed services, carry such an enormous responsibility of helping ensure our peace and security, and in being the first in the line of fire whenever emergencies strike,” Jaime Augusto said.

The McMicking Wings is an award given to the graduating cadet with the highest proficiency in pilot training. The award was named after Col. Joseph McMicking, who was inducted into the US Air Force from the Philippine Air Force Reserve Corps after Pearl Harbor was bombed.
Col. McMicking’s idea of recognizing the best all-around flyer paved the way to the first McMicking Wings in 1939. To date, 99 graduates of the PAF Flying School have been awarded the McMicking Wings.
