Asphalted Road Improves Access to Economic, Tourism Zone in Bataan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed a road improvement project that eases access to the Bataan Technological Park, Inc. (BTPI) in Morong, Bataan.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the DPWH Bataan First District Engineering Office (DEO) oversaw the implementation of the asphalt overlay project along the 861.66-linear meter section of the BTPI Road in Barangay Sabang in Morong town.

DPWH Secretary Bonoan pointed out the importance of providing efficient and unrestricted access through road maintenance works to ensure that the BTPI Road can handle traffic build-up in the area, which is planned to become the Philippines’ center for knowledge-based industries and a potential spiritual pilgrimage destination for the international community.

According to District Engineer Erlindo Flores Jr., the P9.8-million project was carried out from May to July 2022 to repair defects on the BTPI Road in order to prevent accidents and damages to vehicles entering the Bataan Technological Park.

Covering 365.23 hectares, the Bataan Technological serves as the main economic zone for the Municipality of Morong which became the Morong Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) in March 1997.

The technological park – where some 400,000 of refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia was provided asylum through the Philippine Refugee Processing Center – also hosts historical places of interest such as the Atmanda Ecopark, Blessed Pope John Paul II Shrine, Bayon Monument, Chua Van-Hanh Monument, Khmer Monument, and The Boat People Museum.
