Anti-Rockfall Barriers to Ensure Road Safety in Central Iloilo Highlands

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking two (2) slope protection projects to provide a safer and more comfortable travel to upland barangays in the towns of Leon and Alimodian, Iloilo.

With a total amount of P177.79 million, both projects involve the construction of 100-meter high tensile wire mesh along hazard-prone areas of Junction Bancal-Leon-Antique Road in Leon.

DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno said that when completed, the anti-rockfall barriers will ensure the safety of motorists plying the national road from possible landslide and falling debris that may be caused by soil erosion during heavy rains.

“Besides protecting motorists and residents, these structures will also allow unhampered delivery of agricultural products and basic services to far-flung communities in the province,” added Director Bueno.

Locals and visitors can also expect a more convenient travel to tourist destinations such as Bucari Pine Forest which is considered as the “Little Baguio” of Iloilo, Imoy Falls, and “Seven Cities” which is known for its organic vegetable production.

Implemented by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, the slope protection projects are expected to be completed by early 2023.
