Aparri in Cagayan Set to Reach Record-High Heat Index on Sunday

Manila, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has warned that Aparri in Cagayan is expected to hit a scorching 48 degrees Celsius (°C) on Sunday, marking the highest heat index in the area.

In addition to Aparri, four other locations are also predicted to experience extreme heat with a heat index of 46°C. These areas include ISU Echague in Isabela, Tacloban City in Leyte, Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur, and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte.

Pagasa’s forecast further reveals that a total of 41 areas across the country may reach heat indices ranging from 42 to 51°C, categorizing them under the “danger” level. Continued exposure to such high temperatures could lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and potentially heat stroke.

Among the predicted areas, 11 locations are expected to reach 45°C, while eight others could hit 44°C. Additionally, a list of places is projected to experience heat indices between 43 and 42°C, posing health risks to residents.

With the heatwave sweeping across the country, authorities advise the public to take necessary precautions to stay safe and cool during this period of extreme heat.
