22 Nabbed in Weeklong PNP Cyber Patrolling Operations

Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) arrested 22 felons during weeklong police-initiated operations from November 28 to December 4, 2022, PNP Chief, Police General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr announced on Wednesday.

Citing the report of Police Brigadier General Joel B Doria, Director ACG, PNP Chief Azurin announced the arrest of five suspects for Violation of Art 315 (Swindling/Estafa) in relation to Sec 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012), one suspect for Violations of Section 4 (b) (3) Computer Related Identity Theft of RA 10175 and Art 315 (Swindling/Estafa) as amended by RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and another for Violations of Art 178 (Using Fictitious Name) of the Revised Penal Code and Section 4 (a) (1) (Illegal Access) of RA 10175.

Meanwhile, cybercops implemented 15 Warrants of Arrest which led to the arrest of 15 wanted persons for cases relating to cybercrimes.

PGen Azurin noted the ACG’s commendable accomplishments such as: effective implementation of five Cyber Warrants, 62 conducted Digital Forensic Examinations, 25 filed cases in the Office of the Prosecutor, 368 social media cards posts, 40 lectures and dialogues, and 23 radio/tv interviews for the week.

“Marami na tayong nailigtas na mga kababayan natin mula sa mga mapagsamantala, at marami na rin tayong naaresto at nasampahan ng kaso. Ito ay dahil sa matagumpay na pagpapatupad ng batas ng ating mga cybercops katuwang ang kumunidad na patuloy na nagtitiwala sa hanay ng ating kapulisan”, PGen Azurin said.

As the holidays are fast approaching, PGen Azurin also reminded the public to take necessary safety measures to avoid becoming victims especially this yuletide season where different modus scammers may take advantage with.
