Two (2) new flood control structures built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are set to safeguard residents of Bangar, La Union from flood risks, especially during rainy season.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that aside from the construction of dikes, the project also involved rehabilitation of the riverbanks of Amburayan River.
A total of P48.02-million was allocated for the rehabilitation of the riverbank and construction of a 5-meter high dike spanning 409 meters in Barangay Mindoro.
In Barangays Consuegra and Alzate, DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office also implemented the construction of a P403-meter concrete revetment structure amounting to P49-million.
Both projects were funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) and were completed within two (2) months.
“Amid rainy season, we are also fast-tracking the completion of more flood mitigation projects in Region 1 to reduce flood risks and provide primary defense for lives and properties of residents,” said Director Tan.
